The IASSW aims to promote the development and expansion of social work education, in accordance with its mission statement and based on peer consultation. To this end, the IASSW Capacity Building Committee provides Programme Consultations, supports the development and maintenance of Regional Resource Centres, and plans and implements regular capacity building workshops/conferences. See More

I. Peer-review Programme Consultations are designed to support the development of social work education programs within a university setting. The peer-review consultation process is fundamentally

  • Strengths-based
  • Grounded in the history, economics, and culture of the geographic region where the program resides
  • Informed by the respective regional (and subregional/national, if it exists) social work education entity

II. Regional Resource Centres – Regional Resource Centres are established in various regions of the world to support the development of social work education in that region.  Specifically, RRCs are established to

  • develop and implement a regional strategy to provide high quality capacity building,
  • lead research projects relevant to the region, and
  • offer learning opportunities for academic staff and students in social work

III. Workshops and Conferences – The Capacity Building Committee collaborates with regional, subregional, and national entities in the development of workshops and conferences that are relevant to the region.  At each of its bi-annual meetings of the Board of Directors, the Capacity Building Committee works with social work educators from the region to offer a workshop adjacent to the Board meeting.
