IASSW response on Japan earthquake

The earthquakes of 14 and 15 April 2016 that devastated many places in Kumamoto on Kyushu Island has killed several people, injured 1500 others, and left thousands homeless as buildings, transportation routes, and hospitals were destroyed by a 6.2 MW and 7.0 Mw earthquake. Japan is one of the countries that has sought to develop resilient communities and is the most prepared country, but these two earthquakes have left local people worried about their survival and the rebuilding of their homes with a view to being safe in future earthquakes or volcanic eruption (a danger in the nearby areas).  IASSW offers is condolences to those who are suffering and offers support for social workers who are assisting local residents deal with the difficulties and losses they face.  Anyone who needs help can contact Lena Dominelli, Chair of the IASSW Disaster Intervention, Climate Change and Sustainability Committee at Lena.Dominelli@durham.ac.uk and she will attempt to contact those in other parts of Japan to offer assistance.
