Webinar on “World of Conflict and Ecological Crisis: Challenges and Responsibilities of Social Work“, scheduled on 7 April 2022, Thursday from 5:00- 6:30 PM (IST) (12.30 PM BST, 2.30 PM EEST) The webinar is a part of collaborative ‘Team Finland Knowledge’ project funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education on “Sharing Best Practices in Crisis Preparedness in Social Work, with a special focus on migration & climate change.” The aim of the webinar is to engage with the newer challenges and renewed responsibilities for Social Work education and practice in the contemporary situation of conflict and ecological crisis.

Professor Lena Dominelli, one of the most inspiring personalities from amongst social work fraternity, has kindly agreed to deliver a keynote speech, followed by a panel discussion by Professor Manish K Jha, TISS and Professor Satu Ranta-Tyrkkö, JYU, The session will be moderated by Professor Anish K.R., RCSS


About the Keynote Speaker:

Professor Lena Dominelli is a qualified social worker and holds a Chair in Social Work at the University of Stirling. She was previously Co-Director at the Institute of Hazards, Risk and Resilience at Durham University. Professor Dominelli was elected President of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) from 1996 to 2004. Lena Dominelli is a scholar, social justice activist, and public intellectual. A pioneer in the field, she has long put social work under the microscope, revealing its gaps and contributions. In her work, she analyses the complex nature of the interrelationships among various social structures which result in social injustices. She aims to make social workers influential actors in eliminating injustices in society. Professor Dominelli currently chairs the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) Committee on Disaster Interventions, Climate Change and Sustainability and the Special Interest Group on Disaster Interventions for the British Association of Social Workers (BASW). She is a prolific author. Through her extensive contribution, she has enormously enriched Social Work research, teaching, and practice.
